I still haven't seen "The Martian". I'll have to check it out. Just haven't had the time or money to go out to the cinema as much as I'd like to.
I just finished watching "The Martian" and I gotta say it has a lot of comedy and nerdy moments. The movie has some interesting concepts that almost everyone would be interested in.
The humor turns what could otherwise be a very depressing movie into something very engaging. I too like the nerdy moments, and the science I thought was excellent. Good build up of tension as well.
Just watched that a few days ago. Was a good film I thought! Loved the long tracking shots, they must have been hard to film, but I did find it dragged a bit at the end. Best bit for me was the scene with the bear, it was really well done
I watched 'Revenant' the other day, and got really bored about half way through. Like @zephyr says, the tracking shots were good, and there was an impressive sense of realism to the movie (although a bit too much for me at some points!), but I think my tastes might be a bit too plebeian for it. I'm glad DiCaprio won a Golden Globe for it though - he never seems to get the recognition he deserves.
Stumbled across this review of The Revenant, 'in which Leonardo DiCaprio tries to suffer hard enough to win an Oscar' http://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jan/20/reel-history-the-revenant-leonardo-dicaprio
